This post actually accidentally corresponds to the title of my blog. Vlogbrothers Hank Green and John Green came up with the 'tiny chickens hatching in your brain' to refer to the common cold. I'm not entirely sure that I have the common cold, but it sure feels like tiny chickens are hatching in my brain, so I thought it was fully appropriate to steal their phrase and apply it to my illness.
There are a few movies that can make me feel just a bit better no matter how sick I am. They almost never fail. At my very worst I can usually be found lying on the cold, hard floor of the kitchen watching 'Dirty Dancing.' It just helps. Another movie that can be rather healing for me is "Grease 2.' In case you're not noticing a trend here, I'll just help you out by saying that the movies with the greatest healing properties tend to be those that aren't actually that great. I mean, I love them, but you'll never see them on the 100 greatest films of all time list. I suspect that 'Mom and Dad Save the World' has perhaps the most powerful healing capabilities of any movie, but I haven't seen it in something like 15 years, and I refuse to actually spend money to get a hold of it.
Today while the chickens hatch in my brain, I am embarking on a quest to find a greater diversity of healing movies that I can add to my list. Right now I am testing out 'Dark Crystal.' If you've never seen it, you need to. I haven't seen it since I was little, but I am loving it already. Somehow watching the Emperor of the Skeksis crumble away (as my sister, Katie, will someday) makes me feel that much better.
Am I the only one who believes movies can make you feel less ill?
